What are practical applications of heating effect of electric current?


When an electric current is passed through a high resistance wire, like nichrome, the electrical energy is converted into heat energy. This is called the heating effect of electric current.

There are many such other devices that work on the heating effects of electric current. 

Some of the useful applications of the heating effect of current are as follows:

Household heating appliances:
Most of the electrical appliances used in daily life are based on the heating effect of current such as room heater, electric toaster, electric iron, electric oven, electric kettle, geyser, etc.

Incandescent electric bulb:
It is an important application of the Joule heating effect.

Electric fuse:
It is a safety device used to protect electrical appliances from strong currents.
