What are Leguminous Crops?

Leguminous plants belong to the family Fabaceae (or Leguminosae) which is the third-largest family of flowering plants. The fruits of this plant are called legumes.

Well-known examples of legumes are peas, clover, lentils, soy, alfalfa, beans, lupins, and peanuts

These plants are notable because most of them have symbiotic nitrogen-fixing bacteria in structures called root nodules and because of this they play a key role in crop rotation.
