We use ball bearing between the hub and axle of ceiling fan and bicycles. Why?

Ball-Bearings are used between the hub and axle of ceiling fans and bicycles to reduce friction by reducing the area of contact with the use of metallic balls. Here the balls roll rather than slide. Since the balls are rolling they have a much lower coefficient of friction than if two surfaces are sliding each other. Thus ball-bearings are used between the hub and axle of ceiling fan and bicycles to reduce friction.
