Use Euclid’s division algorithm to find the HCF of:
2048 and 960

Given: 2048 and 960.

To find: Here we have to find the HCF of the given numbers.

Solution:

Using Euclid's division algorithm to find HCF:

Using Euclid’s lemma to get:
  • $2048\ =\ 960\ \times\ 2\ +\ 128$

Now, consider the divisor 960 and the remainder 128, and apply the division lemma to get:
  • $960\ =\ 128\ \times\ 7\ +\ 64$

Now, consider the divisor 128 and the remainder 64, and apply the division lemma to get:
  • $128\ =\ 64\ \times\ 2\ +\ 0$

The remainder has become zero, and we cannot proceed any further.

Therefore the HCF of 2048 and 960 is the divisor at this stage, i.e., 64.

So, HCF of 2048 and 960 is 64.
