To stitch a shirt, 2m 15cm cloth is needed. Out of 40m cloth, how many shirts can be stiched and how much cloth will remain?
Given: Cloth needed to stitch one shirt = 2 m 15 cm
To do: Find out of 40 m how many shirts can be stiched and how much cloth will remain?
Solution:Total length of cloth = $40 m$
$1 m = 100 cm$
$2 m = 2 \times 100 cm = 200 cm$
$2 m = 200 cm$ ; so, $2 m 15 cm = 200 + 15 m = 215 m$
$40 m = 40 \times 100 cm = 4000 cm$
Number of shirts can be stitch = Total length of cloth $\div$ Cloth needed to stitch one shirt
= $\frac{ 4000}{ 215} = 18$
If we divide, we get 18 shirts can be stitched 215 $\times$ 18 = 3870
Remaining cloth = 4000 $-$ 3870 = 130 cm
