There were 60 apples in a basket. $ 45 \% $ of them were red and the rest were green. 10 red apples were eaten. What percentage of the remaining apples is red?
(a) $ 34 \% $
(b) $ 45 \% $
(c) $ 66 \% $
(d) $ 83 \frac{1}{3} \% $

Given:

Total number of apples$=60$.

\( 45 \% \) of them were red and the rest were green. 10 red apples were eaten.

To do:

We have to find the percentage of the remaining apples that are red.
Solution:

Number of red apples$=\frac{45}{100}\times60=27$.
Number of green apples$=60-27=33$.
Number of red apples eaten$=10$.

Number of apples remaining$=60-10=50$

Number of red apples remaining$=27-10=17$
Percentage of remaining apples  that are red$=\frac{17}{50}\times100$%

$=17\times2$%

$=34$%

$34$% of the remaining apples is red.
