Solution: 

Let side length of the square field = a

Now,

Perimeter of square field = 4a

Given that:

Total cost of fencing = ₹ 720

Perimeter of square field $\times $ Cost of fencing per meter = ₹ 720

4a $\times $ 12 = ₹ 720

4a = ₹ $\frac{720}{12}$

4a = 60

a = $\frac{60}{4}$

a = 15 m

Therefore,

a)  Perimeter of the square field = 4a = 4 $\times $ 15 m = 60 m

b)  Side length of the square field = a = 15 m
