The sum of three consecutive odd numbers is 39. Find the number

Given: The sum of three consecutive odd number is 39

To do: Find the numbers

Solution:

Three consecutive odd integers have a sum of 39. What are the numbers?

Let the smallest of three odd integers be x. Thus, other two odd integers will be $(x + 2)$ and $(x + 4)$

The sum of these three integers is 39

$x + (x + 2) + (x + 4) = 39$

$x + x + 2 + x + 4 = 39$

$3x + 6 = 39$

$3x = 39 - 6$

$3x = 33$

$x = \frac{33}{3}$

$x = 11$

The smallest of three odd integers is 11. Hence other two odd integers are

$x + 2 = 11 + 2 = 13$

$x + 4 = 11 + 4 = 15$

Answer: The three odd integers are 11, 13 and 15
