The sum of three consecutive multiples of 2 is 18. Find the numbers.

Given: Sum of three consecutive multiples of 2 is 18.

To find: Here we have to find the numbers.

Solution:

Let the numbers be $x$, $x\ +\ 2$ and $x\ +\ 4$

Now,

$x\ +\ (x\ +\ 2)\ +\ (x\ +\ 4)\ =\ 18$

$3x\ +\ 6\ =\ 18$

$3x\ =\ 18\  -\ 6$

$x\ =\ \frac{12}{3}$

$\mathbf{x\ = 4}$

Therefore, the numbers are

$x\ =$ 4

$x\ +\ 2\ =$ 6

$x\ +\ 4\ =$ 8
