To find :

Solution :

We know that,

1 hour = 60 minutes

This implies,

3 hours 20 minutes = 3 hours $+\frac{20}{60}$ hours = $3+\frac{1}{3}$ hours =

$\frac{3\times3+1}{3}$ hours = $\frac{10}{3}$ hours

Distance travelled = Speed $\times$ Time

The distance covered by the airplane in 3 hours and 20 minutes =

1240$\times$$\frac{10}{3}$ km = $\frac{12400}{3}$ km = 4133.33 km

4133.33 km in scientific notation is 4.1333$\times10^3$ km.
