The ratio of the income to the savings of a family is $15:4$. Find the expenditure if the saving is $Rs.\ 2800$.

Given: The ratio of the income to the savings of a family is $15:4$ and the saving is $Rs.\ 2800$.

To do: To find the expenditure.

Solution:

Let $x$ be the income.

As given, $Income:Saving=15:4$

$\Rightarrow \frac{x}{2800}=\frac{15}{4}$

$\Rightarrow x=\frac{2800\times15}{4}$

$\Rightarrow x=10,500$

As known, $Saving=Income-Expenditure$

$\Rightarrow 2800=10,500-Expenditure$

$\Rightarrow Expenditure=10,500-2,800$

$\Rightarrow Expenditure=7,700$

Thus the expenditure is $Rs.\ 7,700$.
