The pressure on earth will be less when the man is
(a) lying
(b) sitting
(c) standing by one foot
(d) standing by two feet
The correct answer is Option (a) lying.
Explanation
We know that Pressure is defined as force per unit area. Mathematically, it is given as force divided by area.
Pressure = $\frac{Force}{Area}$
From the above euation we can conclude that-
1.Pressure is directly proportional to Force $P\propto F$, which means if the force increases pressure also get increased and vice versa.
2. Pressure is indirectly proportional to Area $P\propto \frac{1}{A}$, which means if the area increases pressure gets decreased and vice versa.
So, the pressure on earth will be less when the man is lying, because the area gets increased in the lying position.
