To do: To find the population a year ago.
Solution:
Let us take the population one year ago be $x$.
Then, the population after one year $=\frac{115x}{100}=20700$
$\Rightarrow \frac{115x}{100}=20700$
$\Rightarrow x=20700\times\frac{100}{115}$
$\Rightarrow x=18000$
Therefore the population one year was $18000$.
