The perimeter of a rectangle swimming pool is 194m. Its length is 1m less than 5 times its breadth. What are the length and breadth of the pool?

To do:  Find  The Length And The Breadth Of The Pool

Solution

Let the breadth of swimming pool, $b = x$

Length of swimming pool, l = $5x -1$

Perimeter or rectangular pool = $2(l + b) = 2(5x - 1 + x)$

                                                      =$ 2(6x - 1) = 12x -2 $

                                                      = 194

or $12x = 194 + 2 = 196 $

or$ x = \frac{196}{12}$ = 16.33 m

breadth = 16.33 m; length = $5x - 1 = 5(16.33) - 1 = 80.67 m$

So length = 80.67 m; breadth = 16.33 m
