The perimeter of a parallelogram is $22\ cm$. If the longer side measures $6.5\ cm$ what is the measure of the shorter side?

Given:

The perimeter of a parallelogram is $22\ cm$.

The longer side measures $6.5\ cm$

To do:

We have to find the measure of the shorter side.

Solution:

Let $x$ be the measure of the shorter side of the parallelogram.

We know that,

Opposite sides of a parallelogram are equal.

Therefore,

Perimeter$=2( l+b)$

$\Rightarrow 2(6.5\ cm+x)=22\ cm$

$\Rightarrow 13\ cm+2x=22\ cm$

$\Rightarrow 2x=22\ cm-13\ cm$

$\Rightarrow 2x=9\ cm$

$\Rightarrow x=\frac{9}{2}\ cm$

$\Rightarrow x=4.5\ cm$

Hence, the measure of the shorter side is $4.5\ cm$.
