The number of boys and girls in the class are in the ratio of 7:5. The number of boys is 8 more than the number of girls. Find the number of students in the class.
Given:
The number of boys and girls are in the ratio of $7:5$.
The number of boys is 8 more than the number of girls.
To do:
We have to find the total strength of the class.
Solution:
Let the number of boys be $5x$ and the number of girls is $7x$.
According to the question,
$7x = 5x+8$
$7x-5x=8$
$2x=8$
$x=\frac{8}{2}$
$x=4$
The number of boys $= 7x = 7(4) = 28$.
The number of girls $= 5x = 5(4) =20$.
The total strength of the class $= 28+20 = 48$.
Therefore, the total number of students in the class is $48$.
