The measure of an angle is twice the measure of its supplementary angle. Find its measure.

Given:

The measure of an angle is twice the measure of its supplementary angle.

To do:

We have to find its measure.

Solution:

Two angles are said to be supplementary if the sum of their measures is $180^o$.

Let the required angle be $2x$.

This implies,

The measure of the supplementary angle $=x$

Therefore,

$x+2x=180^o$

$3x=180^o$

$x=\frac{180^o}{3}$

$x=60^o$

$\Rightarrow 2x=2(60^o)=120^o$

The measure of the required angle is $120^o$.
