The mean of 10 observations was calculated as 40. It was detected on rechecking that the value of 45 was wrongly copied as 15.Find the correct mean.

Given :

The mean of 10 observations = 40

One of the value was wrongly entered as 15 instead of 45.

To find :

We have to find he correct mean.

Solution :

This implies,

The sum of 10 observations $= 40\times10 = 400$

The sum of correct observations $= 400-45+15 = 430$

Therefore,

Correct mean $= \frac{430}{10} = 43$

The correct mean is 43.
