The entire process of respiration takes place partially in the cytoplasm and partially in the mitochondria. Explain.

During cellular respiration, the organic compound is broken down in the cytoplasm to produce ATP (energy). While the enzymatic reactions of the cellular respiration (that involves usage of enzymes) starts in the cytoplasm but completes in mitochondria.

Inner membrane or the folds in the mitochondria known as cristae provides the site for the occurrence of enzymatic reactions.
