The energy in petrol originally came from the sun. Explain how it got into petrol.
We know that green plants use sunlight for photosynthesis, which is the process by which they make food for their growth. Thus, they store the energy in the form of carbon compounds in every part of the plants. When animals eat plants for energy, they consume food made originally with the help of sunlight.
After the death of these plants and animals, their remains, which consist of material directly or indirectly made with the help of sunlight, are get buried in the earth and converted into coal and petroleum. These, are energy-rich compounds of carbon that were made by plants using solar energy.
Thus, the energy in petrol originally came from the sun.
