This implies,

$x-y=18$

$x = 18+y$

$x+y = 86$

$18+y+y=86$

$2y = 86-18$

$2y = 68$

$y =\frac{68}{2}$

$y = 34$

$x = 18+34$

$x = 52$

The numbers are 52 and 34.
