The area of a trapezium is $850\ cm^2$. If the measure of one of the parallel sides and the perpendicular distance between them is 64 cm and 17 cm respectively. Find the measure of other parallel side.
Given:
The area of a trapezium is $850\ cm^2$.
The measure of one of the parallel sides and the perpendicular distance between them is 64 cm and 17 cm respectively.
To do:
We have to find the measure of the other parallel side.
Solution:
Let the length of the other parallel side be $x$ cm.
This implies,
Area of a trapezium $=\frac{1}{2}\times$ height $\times$ (Sum of the parallel sides)
$850=\frac{1}{2}\times17\times(x+64)$
$850\times2=17(x+64)$
$x+64=100$
$x=100-64$
$x=36$
The lengths of the other parallel side is 36 cm.
