Subtract the following rational numbers:
(i) $\frac{10}{1012}$ from $\frac{-1}{1012}$
(ii) $\frac{-86}{13}$ from $\frac{-13}{26}$


Given:

(i) $\frac{10}{1012}$ from $\frac{-1}{1012}$
(ii) $\frac{-86}{13}$ from $\frac{-13}{26}$

To do:

We have to subtract the given rational numbers. 

Solution:

(i) $\frac{-1}{1012}-\frac{10}{1012}=\frac{-1-10}{1012}$

$=\frac{-11}{1012}$

(ii) $\frac{-13}{26}-\frac{-86}{13}=\frac{-13\times1-(-86)\times2}{26}$    (LCM of 13 and 26 is 26)

$=\frac{-13+176}{26}$

$=\frac{163}{26}$.

Therefore,

$\frac{-1}{1012}-\frac{10}{1012}=\frac{-11}{1012}$ and

$\frac{-13}{26}-\frac{-86}{13}=\frac{163}{26}$.
