• Objects can be piled up without slipping.
• Vehicles can be stopped by applying brakes because of friction

Disadvantages of friction:

• It always resists the motion, so energy is wasted
• It causes wear and tear of machines.
• A lot of heat and sound are generated in machines due to friction
