Solution:
$\frac{2}{5} y\ -\ \frac{5}{8} y\ =\ \frac{5}{12}$
$\frac{8( 2) y\ -\ 5( 5) y}{40} \ =\ \frac{5}{12}$
$\frac{16y\ -\ 25y}{40} \ =\ \frac{5}{12}$
$\frac{-\ 9y}{40} \ =\ \frac{5}{12}$
$y\ =\ -\ \frac{5}{12} \ \times \ \frac{40}{9}$
$y\ =\ -\ \frac{5}{3} \ \times \ \frac{10}{9}$
$\mathbf{y\ =\ -\ \frac{50}{27}}$
So, value of $y\ =\ -\ \frac{50}{27}$.
