Sachin scored twice as many runs as rahul. Together, their runs fell two short of a double century. How many runs did each one score?

Given: Sachin scored twice as many runs as Rahul and together, their runs fell two short of a double century.

To find: We have to find how many runs did each of them scored.

Solution:

Let the runs scored by rahul = a

So, the runs scored by sachin = 2a

Now, given that together, their runs fell two short of a double century:

a $+$ 2a = 200 $-$ 2

3a = 198

a = $\frac{198}{3}$

a = 66

Therefore,

Runs scored by rahul = a = 66

Runs scored by sachin = 2a = 2 $\times $ 66 = 132
