Rahim and Raj went to Pizza Hut to celebrate Rahim's birthday. They ordered a big pizza. Rahim ate $ \frac{1}{5}$ th of the pizza and Raj ate $ \frac{1}{4}$ th of the remaining pizza. What portion of the pizza was left?
Given :
Out of a pizza Rahim ate $ \frac{1}{5}$ th of the pizza and Raj ate $ \frac{1}{4}$ th of the remaining pizza.
To find :
We have to find the portion left.
Solution :
Let the total amount of pizza be 1.
Pizza eaten by Rahim $= \frac{1}{5}(1) = \frac{1}{5}$
Pizza left now $= 1- \frac{1}{5} = \frac{(5-1)}{5} = \frac{4}{5}$
Raj ate$ \frac{1}{4}$ th of remaining pizza $ =\frac{1}{4} (\frac{4}{5}) = \frac{1}{5}$
The portion of pizza left $= 1- \frac{1}{5}- \frac{1}{5} = 1- \frac{2}{5}= \frac{(5-2)}{5} = \frac{3}{5}$.
The portion of pizza left is $ \frac{3}{5}$.
