On a bright sunny day at noon, where will our shadow be formed? Explain.
When an object (opaque or translucent) placed in front of a source of light, it stops the light and produces a shade or dark area behind it known as the shadow.
A shadow always forms on the opposite side of the source of light and are usually similar in outline to the object and hence we can identify the object from their shadows.
In the morning, when the sun just rises, cast our shadow is very long. The length of our shadow goes on decreasing till noon. Our shadow is shortest at noon. The length of our Shadow starts increasing in the afternoon. And our shadow becomes very long in the evening, just before sunset.
This happens because, shadows are cast by the part of your body that is blocking the sunlight, which is maximized when the sun is low on the horizon and minimized when directly overhead (at noon) and formed just near the feet.
