(a) The difference between washing soda and baking soda is given below:
Washing soda | Baking soda |
Sodium carbonate or washing soda is made up of sodium and acid. Its formula is Na2CO3. | Sodium bicarbonate or baking soda is made up of sodium, acid and hydrogen. Its formula is NaHCO3. |
Washing soda or Sodium carbonate is commonly used in neutralizing acidic solutions in various fields. | Baking soda or Sodium bicarbonate is also used as an odour neutralizer, cleaning or exfoliating agent, and sometimes as a temporary fire extinguisher. |
(b) Bleaching powder is calcium oxychloride(CaOCl2). It is prepared by passing chlorine gas over a dry slaked lime.
