Manik had a sum of money . He saved $\frac{1}{4}$ of it and spent $\frac{4}{9}$ of the remainder on a bike.a) What fraction of his money was was spent on the bikeb). What fraction of his money was left ?

Given: Manik saved $\frac{1}{4}$ of it and spent $\frac{4}{9}$ of the remainder on a bike.

To do: Find

a)  What fraction of his money was was spent on the bike

b). What fraction of his money was left ?

Solution:

If he saved $\frac{1}{4}$ of money, he has:

$1 - \frac{1}{4} =  \frac{3}{4}$

Remaining money = $\frac{3}{4}$

a)

$\frac{4}{9} of \frac{3}{4} = \frac{4}{9}\times\frac{3}{4}$

=$\frac{4\times3}{9\times4} = \frac{12}{36}$

=$\frac{1}{3}$

He spend $\frac{1}{3}$ money on bike

b)

$\frac{3}{4} - \frac{1}{3}$

= $\frac{3*3}{4\times3} - \frac{4\times1}{4\times3}$

= $\frac{9}{12} - \frac{4}{12}$

=$\frac{ 5}{12}$

So, $\frac{ 5}{12}$ of his money was left
