List five activities that are possible due to the presence of air.
The activities that are possible due to the presence of air are given below:
- To make a simple firki: A firki is a traditional indigenous toy for children. It is a finger-propelled spinning toy that spins on the ground. When wind (moving air) blows the pressure builds up near its blades which makes the blades propel and first move.
- To make a weathercock: A wind vane, or a weathercock, is an instrument used to show the direction of the wind. The arrow of the weathercock points in a particular direction at a particular moment, showing the direction in which the wind is blowing.
- To breathe for survival: Animals and plants use oxygen from the air during respiration and release carbon dioxide gas into the air. But green plants also release oxygen gas by using carbon dioxide during photosynthesis.
- For the burning of a substance: Oxygen accounts for 21% of the atmosphere. The oxygen present in the air assists in burning. Oxygen is necessary for burning substances.
- For photosynthesis: Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants use sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide from the air to make their own food.
Carbon Dioxide + Water + Sunlight → Glucose + Oxygen
(Carbohydrate)
