List and explain in one sentence each, the various processes involved in nutrition in animals.
There are five steps in the process of Nutrition in animals, and they are:-
1. Ingestion: It is the process of taking food into the body through the mouth.
2. Digestion: It is the process in which the food containing large, insoluble molecules is broken down into small, water-soluble molecules with the help of hydrochloric acid, and digestive juices so that it can be absorbed by the body.
3. Absorption: It is the process in which the digested food passes through the intestinal wall into the blood vessels.
4. Assimilation: It is the process by which body cells take the absorbed food and uses for growth, energy, and repair.
5. Egestion: It is the process in which the undigested and unabsorbed food is removed from the body via rectum.
