Is rayon more expensive than other natural fibres?
Rayon was invented in 1846 but it began to be manufactured in the United States in 1911. It was called artificial silk until 1924 when the name rayon was coined, rayon was a less expensive alternative to silk clothing and accessories.
It is the first artificial textile material composed of regenerated and purified cellulose derived from plant sources.
Rayon is a highly absorbent fabric that can be more luxurious to the touch but it is more fragile; rayon can be more difficult to wash and must be dried flat.
