In many applications, solar cells are connected to rechargeable batteries. Why is this so?
Solar cells are connected to rechargeable batteries to store the electricity so that it can be used later on, for example, at night and on rainy or cloudy days.
Explanation
Solar cells are connected to rechargeable batteries to store AC energy harvested by the solar panels and stores it as DC power to be used later on. Due to this, we don't need to rely so heavily on the grid to power our homes. Also, we conserve fossil fuels and save a great deal of money while doing so.
