Given: In an examination , a student has to score $40$ % marks to pass. He gets $40$ marks and fail by $40$ marks.
To do: To find the maximum number of marks.
Solution:
Let $x$ be the total marks.
$\Rightarrow x=80\times\frac{100}{40}$
$\Rightarrow x=\frac{8000}{40}$
$\Rightarrow x=\frac{800}{4}$
$\Rightarrow x=200$
Thus, maximum number of marks is $200$.
