In a lottery there are 10 prizes and 25 blanks. What is the probability of getting a prize?

Given:

In a lottery, there are 10 prizes and 25 blanks.

To do:

We have to find the probability of getting a prize.

Solution:

Number of prizes $=10$

Number of blanks $=25$

This implies,

The total number of possible outcomes $n=10+25=35$.

The total number of favourable outcomes(getting a prize) $=10$.

We know that,

Probability of an event $=\frac{Number\ of\ favourable\ outcomes}{Total\ number\ of\ possible\ outcomes}$

Therefore,

Probability of getting a prize $=\frac{10}{35}$

$=\frac{2}{7}$

The probability of getting a prize is $\frac{2}{7}$.
