In a hospital, the monthly consumption of milk of 60 patients is 1350 litres. How many patients can be accommodated in the hospital if the monthly ration of milk is raised to 1710 litres, assuming that the quota per head remains the same?

Given:

In a hospital, the monthly consumption of milk of 60 patients is 1350 litres. The monthly ration of milk is raised to 1710 litres.

To do:

We have to find the number of patients that can be accommodated in the hospital.

Solution:

Amount of milk consumed by 60 patients in 30 days$=1350$ L.

Amount of milk consumed by 60 patients in 1 day$=\frac{1350}{30}$ L.

Amount of milk consumed by 1 patient in a day$=\frac{1350}{30\times60}$ L.

Let the number of patients who consume 1710 litres in 30 days be x.

Therefore,

Amount of milk consumed by x patients in a day$=x\times\frac{1350}{30\times60}$ L.

Amount of milk consumed by x patients in 30 days$=30\times\frac{1350}{30\times60}x$ L.

This implies,

$\frac{1350}{60}x=1710$

$x=\frac{60\times1710}{1350}$

$x=76$

The number of patients that can be accomodated is 76.
