In a family of $3$ children calculate the probability of having at least one boy.
Given: There are $3$ children in a family.
To do: To find the probability of getting at least one boy.
Solution:
Let, boy-B and girl -G
so the total outcomes are:
[GGG, GBB, GBG, GGB, BGG, BBG, BBB, BGB]
Favorable outcomes to be a boy are:
[GBB, GBG, GGB, BGG, BBG, BBB, BGB]
Total no. of possible outcomes$=8$
Total no. of favorable outcomes $= 7$
Probability of getting at least 1 boy $=\frac{Total\ no.\ of\ favorable\ outcomes}{Total\ no.\ of\ possible\ outcomes}=\frac{7}{8}$
Thus the probability of getting atleast one boy in a family is $\frac{7}{8}$.
