In a 2 digit number, the face value of the digit in the ten's place is double the face value of the digit in one's place. If the sum of the two face values is 12, find the 2-digit number.

Given :

In a 2 digit number, the face value of the digit in the ten's place is double the face value of the digit in one's place. The sum of the face values is 12.

To do :

We have to find a two-digit number.

Solution :

Let the two-digit number be $10x+y$.

This implies,

$x = 2y$

The sum of the face values is 12.

Therefore,

$x+y = 12$

$2y+y = 12$

$3y = 12$

$y = \frac{12}{3}$

$y = 4$.

$x = 2(4) = 8$.

The two digit number is $10(8)+4 = 80+4 = 84$.

Therefore, the two-digit number is 84.
