If 32 students in a class are females and the ratio of female to male students is 16: 9 then what percentage of the class is female?

(a) $ 32 \% $

(b) $ 36 \% $

(c) $ 56.25 \% $

(d) $ 64 \% $

(e) $ 72 \% $

Given:

The ratio of female to male students in a class is 16:9.

Number of female students$=32$.

To do:

We have to find the percentage of female in the class.

Solution:

Let the number of female students be $16x$.

This implies,

The number of male students$=9x$.

Therefore,

$16x=32$

$x=\frac{32}{16}$

$x=2$

$9x=9(2)=18$

Total number of students in the class$=32+18=50$.

Percentage of females in the class$=\frac{32}{50}\times100$%

$=32\times2$%

$=64$%

Hence, 64% of the class is female.
