How to compare $\frac{2}{6}$ and $\frac{5}{7}$?
Given :
Given numbers are $\frac{2}{6}$ and $\frac{5}{7}$.
To do:
We have to compare the given numbers.
Solution :
- To compare two rational numbers, convert the denominators of both the rational numbers into same number.
- Then compare the numerators of both the rational numbers.
- The rational number in which the numerator is greater is the greater rational number.
$\frac{2}{6}$ and $\frac{5}{7}$.
L.C.M. of 6 and 7 is 42.
Therefore,
$\frac{2}{6}=\frac{2\times7}{6\times7}=\frac{14}{42}$
$\frac{5}{7}=\frac{5\times6}{7\times6}=\frac{30}{42}$
On comparing the numerators 30>14.
This implies, $\frac{30}{42}>\frac{14}{42}$
Therefore,
$\frac{5}{7}>\frac{2}{6}$.
