How the sperm enters the female body?

During sex, when the male ejaculates (when semen leaves the penis), a small amount of semen is deposited into the vagina.

Semen contains millions of sperm and they "swim" up from the vagina through the cervix and uterus to meet the egg in the fallopian tube.

After ejaculation, sperm can live inside the female body for around 5 days. It is a very long journey for sperm cells and very few survive.

It takes only one sperm to fertilize the egg.
