How ions make it possible for an electric current to pass through a solution?

An electrolyte is a substance( salt or ionizable molecule), when dissolved in solution, provides the solution ability to conduct electricity. This is because when salt dissolves, it dissociates into ions which can move freely in solution, allowing a charge to flow. These ions carry a charge (cations or anions) and move towards their respective electrode (cathode or anode) in a cell. Thus conducting Electricity.
