How clothes keep us warm?

Clothes have spaces in between the threads and the air is trapped in them. Thus they create a barrier between surroundings and our body. Air being a bad conductor of heat does not let the heat pass through it. Our body continuously generates heat, and clothes help us to retain this heat. This way clothes keep us warm.
