Given below are the daily wages of 200 workers in a factory:
Daily wages (in Rs). | 240-300 | 300-360 | 360-420 | 420-480 | 480-540 |
Number of workers: | 20 | 30 | 20 | 40 | 90 |
Given:
Daily wages of 200 workers of a factory.
To do:
We have to find the mean daily wages.
Solution:
Daily Wages | Mid value($x_i$) | Number of workers | $f_ix_i$ |
240-300 | 270 | 20 | 5400 |
300-360 | 330 | 30 | 9900 |
360-420 | 390 | 20 | 7800 |
420-480 | 450 | 40 | 18000 |
480-540 | 510 | 90 | 45900 |
Total | $\sum{f_i}=200$ | $\sum{f_ix_i}=87000$ |
We know that,
Mean $=\frac{\sum{f_ix_i}}{\sum{f_i}}$
Therefore,
Mean $=\frac{87000}{200}$
$=435$
The mean daily wages of the workers of the factory is $Rs.\ 435$.
