Given below are heights of 15 girls of class VIII measured in cm: 128, 144, 146, 143, 136, 142, 138, 129, 140, 152, 144, 140, 150, 142, 154.
Find
a. The range of the given data.
b. The median height of the girls.
Given:
The heights of 15 girls of class VIII measured in cm: 128, 144, 146, 143, 136, 142, 138, 129, 140, 152, 144, 140, 150, 142, 154.
To do:
We have to find:
a. The range of the given data.
b. The median height of the girls.
Solution:
We know that,
Range $=$ Highest value $-$ Lowest value
Median $=$ Middle value
Arranging the given data in ascending order, we get,
128, 129, 136, 138, 140, 140, 142, 142, 143, 144, 144, 146, 150, 152, 154.
Therefore,
a. Range $=(154-128)\ cm=26\ cm$.
The range of the given data is $26\ cm$.
b. Median $=8$th term
$=142\ cm$
The median height of the girls is $142\ cm$.
