Give examples to explain the difference between changes that can or cannot be reversed.

Changes that can be reversed are known as Reversible Changes and the changes that cannot be reversed are known as Irreversible Changes.

Some examples of reversible and irreversible changes are given below:

Reversible ChangesIrreversible Changes

1. Sublimation- Transition of a substance directly from the solid to the gas state, without passing the liquid phase.

2. Glowing of the electric bulb. (When switched on the bulb glows and when switched off the bulb becomes dark.)

3. Distillation of liquids- It is the process of purifying a liquid by a process of heating and cooling.

4. Melting of chocolate- solid chocolate can be melted into liquid on heating and vice versa on cooling

1. Making of curd from milk- once curd is formed, we cannot get back milk from it.

2. Growing of Animals and Plants- It is a unidirectional change.

3. Burning of paper or wood- It gives smoke and ash, which cannot be changed into paper or wood again.)

4. Rusting of Iron.
