From a 9m long cloth, two pieces of $ 3 \frac{3}{4}m$ and $4 \frac{1}{2}m$ long are cut. What is the length of the remaining cloth?

Express the answer as a fraction in its simplest form.

Given: Total length  of cloth  =  9 m

lengths of cloths cut  =  $ 3\frac{3}{4}m$  and   $4 \frac{1}{2}m$

To find: The length of the remaining cloth Subtract the cloth cut from the total length of the cloth.

Solution:

$ 3\frac{3}{4}m$  +   $4 \frac{1}{2}m$

$ \frac{15}{4}m$  +  $ \frac{9}{2}m$

LCM OF 4 and 2 is 4 $\left(\frac{15+9\times 2}{4}\right)$

$\frac{15+18}{4}$

$\frac{33}{4}$

Now to find the remaining cloth 9- $\frac{33}{4}$

$\left(\frac{9\times 4\ -33}{4}\right)$

$\frac{36-33}{4}$

$\frac{3}{4}$

Therefore, the length of the remaining cloth is  $\frac{3}{4}$
