Find whether the following triplets are
Pythagorean or not?
a)(5,8,17)
b) (8,15,17)
To do : Find if the given triplets are Pythagorean triplets or not.
Solution:
a) 5 , 8, 17
$5^{2} + 8^{2} = 25 + 64 = 89$
$17^{2} = 289$
Since , $5^{2} + 8^{2}$ ≠ $17^{2}$ as $89 $ ≠ $289$
Therefore, (5, 8, 17) is not a Pythagorean triplet
b) (8, 15, 17)
$8^{2} + 15^{2} = 64 + 225 = 289$
$17^{2} = 289$
Since $8^{2} + 15^{2} = 17^{2}$
Therefore, (8, 15, 17) is a Pythagorean triplet
