A greater variety of plants and animals in the forests helps it to regenerate and grow. A variety of animals and plants living in forests build rich biodiversity. Biodiversity boosts ecosystem productivity where each species, no matter how small, all has an important role to play. Different animals and plants play different roles in the system of a forest. A greater variety of plants means more food and habitat for the herbivores. An increase in herbivores means more food for carnivores. Decomposers help to maintain the supply of nutrients to the soil and to the growing plants. This wide variety makes a forest a dynamic living entity. Greater species diversity ensures natural sustainability for all life forms.
